At Depenbrock Scandinavia, our mission is clear to everyone: Sustainability must permeate our entire business from the first line on the drawing board to the finished work. We work purposefully to minimize our environmental footprint through optimization of processes, responsible material selection and technological solutions. As a turnkey contractor, Depenbrock Scandinavia is responsible for your entire project process.
Sustainability with roots in Germany – A common starting point for responsibility and action
"At Depenbrock Scandinavia, sustainability is not just a goal – it is an integral part of our corporate culture, strategic direction and daily decisions.
Our approach is largely shaped by the German parent company's long-standing and extensive work on sustainable solutions, which serves as both an inspiration and a guideline for our own development."
Shared culture – Shared responsibility
Our sustainability profile is not only inspired by our German roots. It is the result of a shared mindset and a long-term commitment to responsible construction.
- Solar cells: 40 kW solar cell system contributes directly to our electricity consumption. Geothermal heating: The network building is heated with sustainable energy from the ground.
- Electric charging stations: Infrastructure with 8 Clever charging stations for electric cars.
- Energy management: Modern LED lighting with motion sensors and LUX measurement in all rooms.
- CTS system: Intelligent building management that automatically regulates light, ventilation and heating. Waste management: We sort waste into all common fractions to ensure correct recycling.
Transport and mobility with consideration
- Our transport strategy is rooted in our sustainable values. We are continuously converting our fleet to electric vehicles and using HVO diesel where possible. Through carpooling and a strategic geographical location of projects, we reduce driving distances and ensure more efficient operations.
- The goal is to minimize the need for transport at all levels – from the project manager’s daily route to the construction site logistics.
- We prioritize video meetings, especially with our sister office in Hamburg, and often choose the train for physical meetings as a sustainable alternative – and as a well-deserved break in a busy working day.
Social sustainability
- At Depenbrock Scandinavia, we prioritize mental health. We work hard to create a safe workplace – both on the construction site and in the office – where there is room to express concerns about safety and to speak up against unpleasant words or behavior.
- We provide employees with tools to manage stress, including help with prioritizing tasks and the opportunity to ask for support when the need arises. If necessary, we can also offer professional help.
- Mental well-being is an important part of our overall sustainability efforts, because a healthy working environment contributes to a more robust and responsible society. We also require our subcontractors to be socially responsible and follow up on their efforts to ensure employee well-being and conditions.
Green transition in practice
Recycling and innovation at the Port of Rønne
- In connection with the Molslinjen capacity expansion in Rønne, Depenbrock Scandinavia ApS has spearheaded an innovative and sustainable solution, where recycling, 3D optimization and systematic waste sorting were integrated from the beginning of the project.
- The main task consisted of the construction of a new catering tower at ferry berth 1 – a solution where existing structures were combined with new construction to create a holistic and efficient structure.
- The goal was to optimize the catering flow to the ferries, while reducing the climate footprint – without compromising on either quality or functionality.
From scrap to castle – recycling existing CLG
Circular solutions in our construction projects
- At a nearby ferry berth, there was an older, unused CLG (Catering Landgang), which was otherwise destined for scrapping.
- Instead of being scrapped, it was carefully dismantled, shortened and completely refurbished for use in the demanding port environment.
- With this approach, large amounts of steel could be recycled – reducing both the carbon footprint and the need for new raw materials.
Intelligent design with lower CO2 footprint
At Depenbrock Scandinavia, we are constantly working to ensure resource-saving material use with a focus on solid structural strength.
Through precise optimization of steel structures, we reduce the amount of steel used – an effort that directly contributes to lowering the project’s overall CO₂ footprint.
All solutions are designed in accordance with current Eurocode standards, ensuring that sustainability never compromises quality or safety.
In addition, cladding materials and flashings are planned with a focus on waste minimization, further strengthening the project’s green profile.
Turnkey contract with responsible execution
- As a turnkey contractor, Depenbrock was responsible for the entire project process – including the demolition of the existing, decaying elevator tower, the establishment of new foundations and the construction of the new tower. During the construction, great emphasis was placed on waste sorting and on-site logistics, so that resources could be handled efficiently and environmentally responsibly all the way to the finished product.
- The structures at Rønne Port must be able to withstand a harsh and marine environment. Therefore, materials with a long lifespan and high resistance to salt, moisture and wind impacts were used – an important part of the overall sustainability strategy.
A model for the future of civil engineering
- The project in Rønne is a good example of how green transition and intelligent construction go hand in hand. Through recycling, digital optimization and responsible management of resources, we create solutions that are both economically and environmentally sustainable.
- “At Depenbrock Scandinavia, we do not see sustainability as a choice, but as an integrated part of how we build. From design to handover, every decision must make sense – both for the client and for the environment.” – Depenbrock Scandinavia ApS
